Chappell Hill
Texas

Date: 26th March 2022

On Saturday morning 22 Houston section members in 12 cars headed to Chappell Hill to see the famous Texas bluebonnets. The weather was a little cool for late March in Houston. There was fog in several low lying areas. The temperatured warmed up to mid 70, great top down weather for 8 convertible cars in our group.

Our first stop was the famous Chappell Hill Baker for breakfast and a quick review of our plans and route. Everyone was provided detailed maps with addresses and contact information of each stop.

The next stop was  nearby Chappell Hill Historical Society & Museum. The museum has a large collection of artifacts about Chappell Hill and the surrounding communities. The building of the museum once served as the school for the local kids. In fact our docent for the tour, Jim, is a graduate of the school and he drives a Mercedes-Benz!

Back in the cars we headed to Old Baylor Park, the original site of Baylor University. The only structure remaining are the columns of a building. Old Baylor Park had lots of bluebonnets and many other visitors ejoying the site.

From Baylor Park we drove to the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site where the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico was created and signed in 1836.

Our last stop was for lunch in Navasota at Mallett Brothers BBQ.
